A Fairer, More Fun, Better-Structured Season at The Hockey Studio!
We’re excited to launch our refreshed small-area Spring hockey leagues for players ages 4 to 8, designed to maximize development, fun, puck touches, and fair competition.
After many seasons of running this program, we’ve made important updates to strengthen team parity, improve behaviour standards, and ensure every child has a positive experience.
Our Mission
To create the most enjoyable, fair, and well-run league possible — with a structure that supports development, ensures parity, and promotes positive behaviour on and off the ice.
2026 DIVISIONS
Each age group (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) plays in its own division. Boys and Girls are welcome!
ALL birth years will play 3v3 this year.
League runs May 2nd to June 26th (8 weeks, excluding May 18th – U4 (2022) Monday leagues will end on June 29th). YOU WILL PLAY ONE GAME PER WEEK.

2022 (U4) – MONDAYS or SUNDAYS (Norwest soccer is Saturday 9am, Lambeth Soccer Sat 10 fyi:)
2021 (U5) – TUESDAYS or SUNDAYS (Norwest soccer is Saturday 9am, LAMBETH MON/WED 6/7pm fyi:)
2020 (U6) – SUNDAYS (Norwest soccer is Saturday 9am boys, Saturday 9am /Mon 6pm girls, LAMBETH MON/WED 6/7pm fyi:)
2019 (U7) – THURSDAYS or SUNDAYS (Norwest soccer is TUES/SAT for boys, MON/SAT girls, Lambeth MON/WED 7/8pm fyi:)
2018 (U8) – FRIDAYS or SUNDAYS (Norwest soccer is TUES/THURS 6pm boys, MON/WED 6pm girls, Lambeth MON/WED 7/8pm – fyi:)
2017 (U9) – SATURDAYS or SUNDAYS (Norwest soccer is TUES/THURS 6/7pm boys, MON/WED 6/7pm girls – fyi:)
SUNDAYS will be for overflow leagues as needed. 2022-2017.
VERY IMPORTANT!! WE WILL PRIORITIZE HOURS FOR THE AGE GROUPS / LEAGUES THAT FILL FIRST.
Will we only be accepting 4 teams / 40 players per age group / division – this includes full teams so don’t delay in registering as we only have so many hours available each day.
SPACES and LEAGUE OPTIONS will vary based on registrations. WE MAY SELL OUT EARLY!
NEW THIS YEAR – THREE LEAGUE TYPES!
We are offering three different leagues this year. Each league will have balancing games to determine tiers – so no more tier 1 or 2 at registration.
Simply enter the League that best suits your player, and we will organize the teams into equal groups.
Train & Play (Youngest or New Players)
- 20 mins is skills training, 30 minutes is gameplay
- Perfect for beginners and younger players
- Led entirely by Hockey Studio staff (no parent coaching). Players will be put on teams based on skill level.
- No scorekeeping — focus is fun, confidence, and learning.
- No goalies needed – but are always welcome! We have equipment for anyone wanting to try goalie) We will use a mix of smaller pond hockey nets, shooter tutors or interactive targets to keep things fun!
Fun League (Developing Players)
- Great for players with some experience who want a positive, balanced environment
- Free agents + pre-made teams welcome
- Free-agent teams are created and coached by Studio staff
- Pre-made teams require a parent volunteer coach
- No scores or standings — development and enjoyment come first!
- No goalies needed – but are always welcome! We have equipment for anyone wanting to try goalie) We will use a mix of smaller pond hockey nets, shooter tutors or interactive targets.
Competitive League (Advanced Players)
- For players already in competitive hockey who want fast-paced, challenging gameplay
- Scores are kept BUT focus is still on development and fun in a competitive environment. RESPECT and SPORTSMANSHIP are paramount.
- Pre-made competitive teams only.
- No free-agents in competitive at this time. (Though please email us if you are looking to be a free agent)
- One round of balancing games before seasons begin to ensure fair matchups
- Pre-made teams require a parent coach, and must be run with fair play-equal playing time.
- Competitive League will have OFFICIAL CARDED REFEREES.
NEW! Team Formation & Parity System
After evaluating feedback from past seasons, we are introducing a new structure that protects fairness for all players.
FULL TEAMS
You may register a full team of any number of players, however team cost is based on the below guidelines.
We recommend 9 skaters and a goalie for 3v3 leagues or 10 players with either a rotating goalie, or shooter tutor.
Free Agents (Train & Play + Fun Only)
Free agents are welcome in Train & Play and Fun leagues.
Train & Play + Fun League
- Staff-led balancing skate
- Balanced teams created by The Hockey Studio
- As much as possible, Free-agent teams will play against other free agent teams
Competitive League
- No Free agents in competitive tier this year. You must be part of a team.
- Ensures fairness and keeps competitive players in the right environment.
New This Year – Division Convenors
Every age group will have a dedicated Hockey Studio Staff Convenor who will:
- Be present at all games in their division
- Support parents and players
- Address concerns quickly
- Monitor and reinforce behaviour expectations
- Ensure fair, respectful play
Our new Convenors ensure a safer, more positive experience for everyone.
Behaviour Expectations (Zero-Tolerance Update)
To protect the playing environment:
- Abusive, confrontational, or inappropriate language or behaviour will not be tolerated
- Convenors will intervene quickly
- Individuals may be removed from the facility for violating behaviour standards
- Our goal is a fun, development-focused, respectful atmosphere for all players and families
Gameplay Structure
- All sessions are 45 minutes
- Games are small-area 3v3.
- Fast, fun, high-touch hockey with tons of puck possession and creativity

FAQ FOR PARENTS
1. Why are free agents not allowed in competitive this year?
Last year, competitive free-agent teams struggled, causing blowouts and frustration.
This year, we are not allowing competitive free agents to form their own team.
2. Why don’t free-agent Fun/Train & Play teams play pre-made teams?
Because skill levels vary.
Separating them protects fairness, prevents blowouts, and creates a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
3. What is a balancing skate?
Before the season begins, all free agents participate in a brief evaluation skate.
Our coaches use this to build well-matched teams in each tier.
Competitive also includes one round of balancing games before standings begin.
4. Why do pre-made teams need a parent coach?
Staff coaches are dedicated to free-agent teams and on-ice development.
Pre-made teams require a parent volunteer for:
- bench management
- communication
- role modelling appropriate behaviour
5. Why are division convenors necessary?
This year, convenors will:
- manage communication
- oversee gameplay
- reinforce our behaviour standards
- support families in real time
6. Can my child switch tiers mid-season?
If space allows, yes.
However, movement into the competitive tier requires staff approval to maintain fairness.
7. Are scores kept for all divisions?
No — only the Competitive division keeps score.
Fun League and Train & Play focus strictly on development.
